Paid placements, plainly labelled
Maui businesses featured on this guide.
Three of them. They pay to be here, we say so on every page they appear on, and the list stays short so that being on it still means something.
What this list is, and what it is not
These are paid placements. That sentence goes first because burying it three paragraphs down is how travel sites turn an advert into what looks like a recommendation. Every business below pays for its listing and its page on this site.
What it is not: a ranking, an award, a directory, or the result of anything you could reasonably call a review process. We have not secretly-shopped anyone. We are not going to tell you these are the best three businesses on Maui at what they do, because we have not tested every business on Maui at what they do, and neither has anyone else publishing a “top ten” list.
What it is: a short list, kept deliberately short. Three placements, not thirty. The moment this page turns into a wall of logos it stops being useful to a visitor and starts being noise — and this whole site only works if you believe what is on it. A page of paid links that pretends not to be one costs more credibility than it earns.
How we decide who can be on it
One test: would a person standing on Kaanapali Beach, planning the rest of their week, genuinely be glad to know this exists? An elopement planner, a music teacher and a family-run cottage on the other side of the island pass that. A timeshare pitch does not.

A short list, kept short on purpose. These are paid placements — we say so plainly rather than pretending a directory is a recommendation.
If you run a Maui business and are considering a placement
Here is the honest version of the numbers, including the part most sites would leave ambiguous.
What the 200,000 figure actually refers to
The Kaanapali Beach Google Business Profile that points at this guide draws 200,000+ views a year, around 30,000 a month. That figure describes the Google Business Profile — the map and search listing — and not sessions on this website. They are two different things, and quoting one while implying the other is the kind of number inflation that makes every other claim on a page suspect.
Website traffic is a separate, smaller number, and it grows as the guide does. If you want it before you decide anything, ask and we will send you the current figure rather than a rounded one.
What a placement gets you: a card in the list above on every page that renders it, and a page of your own on this domain that links to your own site — written honestly, with the paid relationship stated on it, because a page that reads like a puff piece does not convert anyone.
What it does not get you: a claim that you are the best at anything, an invented review count, or a sentence about your business that we have not verified with you first. If we do not know a fact, we write around it.
The Google Business Profile view figure is reported from the profile’s own insights. It counts profile views, not website sessions, not clicks, and not bookings. We are stating that distinction on the page rather than in a footnote because an unlabelled traffic number is a credibility risk for everybody involved.

If you landed here looking for the beach rather than the business page, start at the Kaanapali Beach guide, or go straight to parking, snorkeling or safety and conditions.
Who wrote this
Written and photographed on Maui by Shane Perry. Every fee, rule, stall count and hazard on this site is checked against a primary source — the county, the state, the resort, the marker on the beach — before it goes on the page. Where the sources disagree, we say so instead of picking the one that reads best.
